Barton Lee Skerlec, 78, of Ruffsdale, Pa., died Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Excela Latrobe Hospital. Born on November 20, 1940 in Yukon, Pa., he was the son of the late Anthony and Edith Josephine (Krafka) Skerlec. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. After his service, he returned to the area and worked at local companies until his retirement. An avid outdoorsman, Bart liked hunting, but most of all, he enjoyed gardening and tending to his property. Some other pastimes included visiting the casinos and reading cowboy stories. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. Bart is proceeded in death by his beloved wife Ethel Chovanec Skerlec. He is survived by two brothers, Roderick G. Skerlec of Ruffsdale, Pa., and Gerald E. Skerlec of Forest Hills, Pa.; a sister, Sandra E. Shipley of Wyano, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc., Rt. 136 Madison, Pa., with Fr. Richard Ulam O.S.B. officiating.
