Donald E. Podbesek, 89, of Herminie, Pa. died Thursday January 17, 2019 at Walden’s View of N. Huntingdon. He was born August 4. 1929 in Hutchinson, Pa. Son of the late Louis and Agnes Podbesek. Prior to his retirement, he worked for the A&P store for a number of years and then went on to work for the Jones Brewing Company in Smithton, Pa. as a machine operator until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Edwards Roman Catholic Church in Herminie, Pa. where he served as a eucharistic minister for many years. Before starting his day, Don would pick up and read his St. Joseph daily missal and special prayer cards before he had breakfast. He was a proud member of The Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council #9019 of Irwin, Pa. Don was a huge helper for everyone, along with his friend Mario. Don was a great sports fan where he and his friends would often go tailgating at the Notre Dame football games. He is proceded in death by both parents, four brothers – Frank, Martin, Louis and John (Chick) Podbesek and two sisters – Marian Marshall and Frances Gedid. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Christina B. Filipich Podbesek of Herminie, Pa., two step sons – Alan Urana and wife Patti of Wexford, Pa. and Randy Urana and significant other Lisa of Irwin, Pa., one step grandson – Joseph Urana and one step granddaughter Lauren Urana. Anyone wishing to attend Donald’s funeral mass is asked to go directly to St. Edwards Catholic Church 120 St. Edwards Lane Herminie, Pa 15637 for a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 am Monday January 21, 2019 with Fr. Richard Ulam O.S.B. as celebrant. A private interment will follow at the Westmoreland County Memorial Park Cemetery in Greensburg, Pa.
