Lawrence Reed Heltebran

Lawrence Reed "Larry" Heltebran, 79, of Smithton, Pa. died Saturday January 5, 2019 at Country Care Manor in Fayette City, Pa. surrounded by his family. He was born March 26, 1939 in Smithton, Pa. Son of the late John David and Grace V. Newlin Heltebran. He was a graduate of the South Huntingdon High School class of 1957. He was a member of The Hilltop United Methodist Church in Madison, Pa. Being raised on the family farm, he helped with over 1,000 chickens, bailing hay and herding their many beef cattle, sheep and hogs. He was known as his grandpap Newlin’s shadow. He was employed by The Pennsylvania Turnpike as a truck driver on the maintenance crew. He was a member of The Masons, The Rostraver-West Newton Ambulance Service, as well as serving on the Smithton Borough Council for many years. Larry loved planting flowers, gardening and most of all woodworking. He is preceded in death by both parents and survived by his loving wife of 31 years Karen A. Burkhart Heltebran of Smithton, Pa., one son – Scott Heltebran of Wyano, Pa., two daughters – Nancy Murtland and husband Mark of Greensburg, Pa. and Janet Fracola of Herminie, Pa., one step son Stephen Povlish of Mt. Jackson, VA.,  one brother – David (Lee) Heltebran and wife Elizabeth of West Newton, Pa., one sister – Linda Tompkins and husband Wade of Adamsburg, Pa., four grandchildren, one great grandchild and three step grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Wednesday January 9, 2019 at the Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc. Rt. 136 Madison, Pa. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday January 9, 2019 at 7:30pm with Chaplain Donna Schmoyer officiating. Interment will be private.
