Donald C. Leskosek, 88, of West Newton, PA, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Excela Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, PA. He was born February 19, 1933 in Yukon, PA. Son of the late Michael and Frances Skerbetz Leskosek. He is preceded in death by his loving wife – Sally Leskosek, two brothers – Melvin Leskosek and Leo Leskosek and two sisters – Dorothy Hyrczyk and Theresa Rupert. He is survived by one son – James D. Leskosek, three daughters – Joyce (William) Cochran, Donalyn (Martin) Spisak and Susan (Randy) Martini, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, one brother – Michael Leskosek, many nieces and nephews, one special friend – Jennie Monta and his four furbabies. He attended the South Huntingdon High School and then joined the Army, where he fought on the front line in the Korean War and earned 2 Purple Hearts. Donald worked as a heavy machine operator for Duquesne Slag where he retired after 33 years of service. Donald was a member of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Yukon, PA, the SNPJ Lodge 117 in Yukon, PA, the Senior Center in Herminie, PA, Founder of the Yukon Button Box Club and he often played at the Hermine Button Box Club and was a lifetime member of the Herminie VFW Post 8427. Donald was a very hard worker; working a day job and then coming home to work on the family farm. Donald had a passion for playing his accordion. He played all over Slovenia and Germany, where he traveled and was an entertainer for all his wife's bus trips with the family travel agency S&J Travel. He played at the Herminie Senior Center, the Slovenian Club in Herminie, the Slovenian Club in Yukon and he marched and played with the Philadelphia Mummers on occasion. He loved his farm and was a major gardener; growing huge pumpkins, watermelons and cabbages. He was a yearly winner of the biggest tomato contest through Herminie SNPJ. A private visitation was held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc. Rt 136 Madison, PA – Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD. A private interment will take place at the Madison Union Cemetery in Madison, PA with Fr. Richard Ulam, O.S.B. officiating with full military honors by the Armbrust Veterans.
