Doris Higgins Obituary

Doris Aleen Higgins (Trout), 89, of West Newton, PA passed away at her home on December 17, 2020. She was born August 28, 1931 in Hunker, PA. She was the eldest daughter of the late Rev. Lloyd Trout, Sr. and Thelma (Steiner) Trout. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for 23 years by a custodial service at the Westinghouse Waltz Mill plant. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Madison, PA, the same church she was married at in 1951. She was known by many for her delicious coconut cream pies, the crocheting of beautiful afghans and making artful quilts. She enjoyed ice cream, watching game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and The Price is Right. Her home was welcome to all and frequently was the place of family reunions and holiday parties. She loved to wear the colors red and purple. Though having several health issues, she met them with courage and endurance. She quietly prayed for those she loved and had many hugs to give to others. There are special smiles in Heaven today as she reunites with those gone before her. Gentle tears here…until we meet again. She is preceded in death by two brothers – Rev. Dr. Foster Trout (Eleanor) and Rev. Melvin Trout (Etta Mae) and one sister-in-law – Daisy Trout. She is survived by her loving husband Edwin J. Higgins of 69 years, four daughters – Sharon Kolar of West Newton, PA, Linda Sherman (James) of West Newton, PA, Sandra Pleva (Frank) of West Newton, PA and Tamara Kalkbrenner (Floyd S) of South Park, PA, two sisters – Wanda Plotner (Robert) of Smyrna, GA and Jeanie Sherman (Kenneth) of Madison, PA, two brothers – Darrel Trout (Miwako) of North Huntingdon, PA and Lloyd A. Trout Jr. of Meyersdale, PA and one sister-in-law Joan Trout of Columbus, GA. She had been blessed with six grandsons in a row before finally getting a granddaughter, and then a seventh grandson; eleven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and many loving nephews and nieces. A private visitation will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc. Rt. 136 Madison, PA. – Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD. A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Madison Union Cemetery with Rev. Robert Green officiating.
