Edward P. Hrtyanski, 86, of West Newton, PA, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He was born January 13, 1934 in Arona, PA. Son of the late Julius and Susan Palicka Hrtyanski. Edward was a graduate of Sewickley Township High School Class of 1951. Edward served in the U.S. Navy from December 1953 to October 1959 as a Hospital Corpman (HM2) with duty at Camp Lejeune, NC and on board the USS Hooper Island-ARG-17 in San Diego, CA. After attending Robert Morris University – School of Accounting, he worked at Pittsburgh Reflector in Irwin, PA, Commonwealth Bank and Trust Co. in Pittsburgh, PA and retired after 40 years of service in January 2001 from SMS Engineering Co., in Pittsburgh, PA as an Accountant and Asst. Treasurer. Edward was a member of the Sewickley United Presbyterian Church on Herminie-West Newton Road in West Newton, PA where he served as Trustee and ruling elder. He was the church Treasurer for 54 years and served as Clerk of Session for 48 years. He was a member of Sewickley Grange No. 1897, Sewickley Township Community Fair with his wife JoAnn, serving as Treasurer for 23 years; receiving the 2019 Friend of the Fair Award. He was a member of the State Grange, National Grange, American Legion Post # 401 in West Newton, PA. and the Sewickley Ambulance where he was a dispatcher and drove ambulance for a number of years. In his younger years, he liked to be outside and work in the garden, go square dancing and polka dancing with his wife at least once a month at the Grange. He was very involved with his sons in Boy Scouts for over 15 years, going camping at least once a month with them, and became Cub Master for their troop. He became a Commissioner for Bushy Run Council, a member of the Order of the Arrow and had the high honor of becoming a Wood Badge member. Edward was a very dedicated man and served his church and Grange throughout his life. Upon retirement, he traveled to Hawaii and Alaska with his loving wife, as well as to Disneyland with friends and bus trips to Branson and Nashville with First National Bank. He is preceded in death by both parents and one sister – Elaine Hrtyanski. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years – JoAnn Hague Hrtyanski of West Newton, PA, two sons – Todd Hrtyanski and wife Carol of Greensburg, PA and Kevin Hrtyanski and wife Sandy of Murrells Inlet, SC, five grandchildren – Cody and wife Casey, Darick, Luke and wife Victoria, Emilee and Raven, one great granddaughter on the way and one brother – William Hrtyanski of Greensburg, PA. A private visitation will be held Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc. Rt 136 Madison, PA – Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD. A private graveside service will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Westmoreland Memorial Park Cemetery in Greensburg, PA with Pastor Glenn Hart officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to Sewickley United Presbyterian Church c/o James Sager Jr. Firehall Lane West Newton, PA 15089. Edward was blessed with the gift of a new heart through CORE which provided him with 20 more years of wonderful life and was so very grateful every day for the gift of life. He was an advocate for everyone to become an organ donor. In compliance with the CDC COVID-19 guidelines, only 10 people will be permitted at one time into the funeral home. Masks are required to be worn at all times while in the funeral home and social distancing is required.
