John F. Steban, 81, of Champion, PA, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at UPMC East in Pittsburgh, PA. He was born November 4, 1940 in West Newton, PA. Son of the late John W. and Mildred “Minnie” (Cornell) Steban. He was very crafty, loved to joke with his grandchildren, enjoyed camping, bowling, watching sports and eating pizza and ice cream. In his younger years he liked to go fishing, and he even built his own boat with the help of his uncle Gus. He was also a very talented baseball player who at one point was offered a tryout with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He enjoyed gardening and canning fruit from his fruit trees. He loved to cook, and his family enjoyed his famous zucchini lasagna. He created beautiful pond features, especially the one at his camp in Champion, PA where his grandchildren and great grandchildren would help him decorate with little figurines that he would make by hand. He is preceded in death by both parents, one son – John Alan Steban, significant other of 40 years – Helen J. Bobby and his rescued loving companion Pinnucci. He is survived by two daughters – Denise Sansonetti and husband Tim of Pittsburgh, PA and Kim Bartos and husband Steve of West Newton, PA, his ex-wife and friend of 22 years – Lorraine (Converso) Steban, eight grandchildren – Justin, Ashley, Katie, Nathan, Zachary, Rebecca, Christina and Tyler, three great grandchildren – Taylor, Paige and Milan, one brother – Daniel Steban and wife Karen of Vanmeter, PA, three sisters – Dedra Frich and husband William of Donora, PA, Mary Ann Cekus of Pittsburgh, PA and Bernadette Sette and significant other Doug of West Newton, PA. Friends will be received from 2 - 4 pm and 6 – 7:30 pm on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at the Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc. Rt 136 Madison, PA – Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD. A funeral service will be held at 7:30 pm at the funeral home.
