Surrounded by his family, John “Jack” T. McConville, 81, of Rural Valley, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at his daughter’s in Youngwood. Jack was born April 3, 1939 in Tarentum, PA. Son of the late Thomas J. and Frances Adeline Wilkin McConville. John was a graduate from Kittanning High School Class of 1958. Serving as a Personnel Specialist, he enlisted in the U.S. Army acquiring the rank of Corporal. Afterwards, he went on to receive an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Robert Morris University. John was an active member of the Hilltop United Methodist Church for 44 years. He sang in the choir, served as a parking lot greeter, and helped his wife, Hilda, lead the children’s ministry by organizing biking, fishing and canoe trips. He read a chapter in his Bible every morning and called his grandchildren to pray for them each morning before school. John was a wonderful man with integrity. He kept everyone laughing and was selfless, always doing for others. His hobbies included cutting down trees, bike riding and putting puzzles together. After completing a puzzle, he would glue them together and hang them in his garage. Not only were all four walls decorated with finished puzzles, but the ceiling, too. Before he would start his chainsaw, he would say a prayer claiming, “you never know”. He loved spending time with his family, and “This Little Light of Mine” was his favorite song to sing. He enjoyed living on the farm with his wife and taking care of her horses, goats and guineas. Jack and Hilda participated in the Appalachian Wagon Train for over 20 years. He is preceded in death by both parents, one brother – William B. McConville and three sisters – Dorothy Dietz, Patricia Hoffer and Mary Lou Childers.
