Lawrence W. (Pete) Stoner, , of New Stanton, PA passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Excela Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, PA. He was born July 5, 1937 in Tarrs, PA. Son of the late Orton O. and Margaret (Leasure) Stoner. Lawrence was a heavy equipment operator for over 60 years for the Operating Engineers Local #66. He enjoyed playing his banjo, hunting, camping and fishing locally as well as steelhead fishing in Erie with his family as well as many great times at their family cabin in Indian Head, Pa. He loved gardening and had a green thumb; growing moonflower plants on his property that blossomed every night. He enjoyed watching hummingbirds and other birds at his feeders. He was very handy; fixing lawnmowers and weedwhackers for many years for local neighbors. He is preceded in death by both parents, Loving wife of 59 years Phyllis (Dick) Ritenour Stoner, two brothers – Ronald and J.D. Stoner and eight sisters – Retha Hribal, Dolores Moore, Zelma Herbert, Gloria Miller, Jeannette Stoner, Martha Butler, Margaret Burkholder and Carol Kite. He is survived by two sons – Randy (Debbie) Stoner of Greensburg, PA, Kevin (Melissa) Stoner of Reynoldsville, PA and one daughter – Michelle “Missy” (Joseph ((“Danny”)) Shaffer of New Stanton, PA, two brothers – Frank Stoner of Scottdale, PA and David (Kathy) Stoner of Rostraver, PA, three sisters – Dianne Lint of Central, PA, Emma Stoner of Ruffsdale, PA and Deborah (John) Lint of Ruffsdale, PA, six grandchildren – Alex (Becky) Stoner, Abigail Stoner, Joseph Shaffer Jr., John (girlfriend Breanna) Shaffer, Chloe Stoner and Matthew Stoner, many nieces and nephews and his beloved cat Baby who he loved and spoiled every day. The family would like to give a special thank you to Pete’s neighbor friends Jeff and Kathy Moore for all the help and care given to Pete over the last few years. Friends will be received from 4 – 7 pm on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc. Rt 136 Madison, PA 15663 – Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD. A funeral service will be held at 7 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Samuel Scheiderer officiating. A private interment will take place at the Middletown UMC Cemetery in Greensburg, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations be made in Lawrence’s name to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church 2094 Main Street Arona, PA 15617.
