Mary T. (May) Benson

Mary T. Benson, 88, of Herminie, PA passed away peacefully Friday, September 2, 2022, at Westmoreland Manor in Greensburg, PA. She was born at home on August 20, 1934 in East Brady, PA. Daughter of the late Joseph Bertram and Margaret Catherine (Schumacher) May. Mary was a graduate of East Brady High School Class of 1952. She then attended and received her Associate’s degree from Duff’s Business Institute in Pittsburgh, PA. Mary was a long-time member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Herminie, PA. Prior to her marriage she was employed by Thrift Drug in Pittsburgh, PA as an IBM key punch operator and by Clarion County Highway Department. She was a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers, Notre Dame, Duke Basketball, Pittsburgh Penguins, and NASCAR. She loved gardening and took an active interest in politics and her local community. She is preceded in death by both parents, her loving husband William E. “Swede” Benson, infant daughter Bernadette Benson, brother Vincent May of East Brady, brother Joseph B. May and his wife Ella Marie May of Butler and sister Margaret Gilder and her husband John of Maryland. She is survived by daughter Bridget Dzamba and her husband, Rick, of Miami, FL, son Kevin E. Benson, of Irwin, PA, brother Bernard R. May and his wife Patricia, of Indiana, PA, three step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A devoted and caring mother to her family, and someone who always put others first, Mary will be dearly missed by her family and all who were lucky enough to have known her. The family would like to give a special thank you to the entire staff of Westmoreland Manor, especially the staff of Floors A2, C3 and “Doctor” Elizabeth Treager for their care, love and compassion, Dr. Kad of Excela Hospital in Greensburg, PA and Dr. DeGregory in Greensburg, PA. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD.  A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, September 23, 2022 at the Westmoreland County Memorial Park Cemetery in Greensburg, PA with Fr. Vincent Yee-Concepcione officiating. Interment will follow.
