Roderick G. Skerlec, 84, of Ruffsdale, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Yukon, PA, son of the late Anthony “Sparky” and Edith Skerlec. Roderick was a graduate of South Huntingdon High School. He worked and retired from WABTEC after 40+ years. He was a member of Old Westmoreland Rifles and a lifetime member of Hecla Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and primitive camping. He enjoyed American history and archeology, gardening and growing wild flowers. He liked going to the casino, was an avid reader and enjoyed historical fiction. Rod loved bluegrass music; attending many weekend bluegrass festivals through the years. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years – Mary Skerlec and brother - Barton Skerlec. He is survived by one son - Roderick B. Skerlec of Ruffsdale, PA, two daughters - Sherry L. Stokes and husband Ralph G. of Madison, PA and Darleen R. Morelli and husband Edward of Central City, PA, one brother – Gerald Skerlec of North Versailles, PA, one sister – Sandra Shipley of Wyano, PA, grandchildren – Holly Stokes, Jason Morelli and Dante Morelli, two great grandchildren – Dominick and Mia and furbaby – Bailey. Friends will be received from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc. Rt 136 Madison, PA – Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday, May 6, 2022 at the funeral home with Father Rumen Stoychev officiating. Interment will follow at the Youngwood Cemetery in Youngwood, PA.
