Thomas Babyak, 92, of Ruffs Dale, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, September 5, 2021. Born in Perryopolis, Fayette County, Tom was the youngest son of Michael and Mary Babyak. He is predeceased by his parents, and his siblings, Michael, Margaret, Pauline, Ann, Irene, Elizabeth, and William. Tom retired from U.S. Steel Clairton Works after 38 years of service, where he worked in the heating department. A "natural mechanic,” Tom hired local teenagers to help build his automotive repair and state inspection business “Tom and Sons Repair." When his four sons were old enough, they helped their father continue building the business which thrived for over 50 years. As a member of Saint Timothy Catholic Church in Smithton and then Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Yukon, Tom served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society and active in the Knights of Columbus, Belle Vernon council. Tom achieved Fourth Degree level within the Knights of Columbus, and served as Grand Knight. Tom recruited enough new members to establish additional councils for the Knights, leading to him being named Knight of the Year in 1999. Tom was a very dedicated family man, and is survived by his wife of nearly 72 years, Pauline (Szary), seven children, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Patricia (Jim Boardman), Tom (Karen Berry), Chris (JoAnn), Tim (Maryjo), Mark (Beth), Marilyn (Steve Jones), Melanie (Randall Heppell); grandchildren Christopher, Emily (Justin Gavazzi), Michael (Katty), Karen, Rose (Jon Malenock), Nate (Megan), Brooke (Michael Belair), Becca (Kyle Sam), Matthew (Bo Zhao), Christina (Ian Klybor), and Daniel; great grandchildren Evelyn and Jeremy. Tom had numerous nieces and nephews who will dearly miss him, especially Elizabeth, Louise, and Stan. Friends will be received from 3:00 - 5:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Beatty-Rich Funeral Home Rt 136 Madison, PA – Ronald A. Rich Jr,. Supervisor/FD. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Yukon at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 9, 2021. Anyone wishing to attend the funeral mass is asked to go directly to the church at 102 Center St. Yukon, PA 15698. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory may be made any charitable organization. Masks are highly recommended to be worn at all times while in the funeral home and social distancing is required.
