Vernae M. (Choban) Draus

Vernae M. (Choban) Draus, 70, of Lowber, PA, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024 at Excela Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, PA. She was born September 24, 1953 in Greensburg, PA. Daughter of the late Michael and Sophie (Coffer) Choban. She graduated from Yough Senior High School Class of 1972. Vernae worked in telemarketing for 39 years, as well as being a nurse’s aide for several years at Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, PA. At 23 years old she decided to move down to Key West, FL, where she met her husband and continued to live for several years.  In the summer time, she enjoyed many weekends camping at Kooser Park with her family. She enjoyed motorcycle riding with her husband through the mountains, dancing at June Bugs and going to Perryopolis for their flea markets on Sunday’s. She had a great love for Chinese food and was always looking for a reason to go out and get it. Vernae enjoyed the outdoors and loved being in the pool in the sun and eating her watermelon. She planted a garden every year and loved taking care of her beautiful flowers. Everyone that knew her would say without a doubt she had a heart of gold and her grandchildren were her whole world. She is preceded in death by both parents and loving husband, Peter Draus. She is survived by son, Matthew J. Draus (Nicole) of Lowber, PA; grandchildren, Takoda and Grace Draus and brothers, John Choban and Mike (Charlotte) Choban of Mt. Pleasant, PA. Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc. Rt 136 Madison, PA – Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD, in charge of arrangements. A gathering of friends will be held from 5:30 pm – 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Bible Alliance Church, 1300 Mt. Pleasant Rd. West Newton, PA 15089. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm at the church with Rev. Frank Todaro officiating. Interment will be private.
