William Murphy Obituary

 

 

William J. Murphy, 89, of Greensburg, PA passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at Excela Westmoreland Hospital. He was born October 27, 1931 in Latrobe, PA. Son of the late Clyde F. and Edna M. Lentz Murphy. William was a graduate of Latrobe High School. He was a member of the New Life Tabernacle Church in New Stanton, PA. He was a man of strong faith and loved going to church every Sunday. He was very active in his church and liked to help cook for many functions held. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a crane operator for Edgar Thompson for 43 years.  He liked to hunt, fish, work on cars, spend time at camp in Erie, read his Bible and listen to Gospel music and hymns. He was a very hard worker, willing to help anyone in need, including his family and friends. He was an amazing father, grandfather and great grandfather. In his younger years, he enjoyed going square dancing with his wife and children. He always made time for his family and loved to spend time by the pool in the summers. He is preceded in death by both parents, one grandson – Joshua Murphy, one great granddaughter – April Manly, three brothers – Clyde, Paul and Albert Murphy and two sisters – Marilyn Stence and Joyce Wilcox. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years – Anna J. (Maughan) Murphy, three sons – William T. Murphy and wife Bonnie of Derry, PA, Rodney Murphy and significant other Debbie of Delaware and Terrance J. Murphy and wife Tammy of Scottdale, PA, two daughters – Karen Kozar and husband Dennis of Mt. Pleasant, PA and Cindy Manley and husband Mahlon of Greensburg, PA, one brother – Thomas Murphy and wife Sharon of Arizona, 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 – 3:30 pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc. Rt 136 Madison, PA – Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD. Anyone wishing to attend the visitation is asked to stay in their vehicle until a funeral home attendant escorts you inside the funeral home. A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 4:00 pm at the Madison Union Cemetery in Madison, PA with pastor Roland Smith officiating followed by interment. In compliance with the CDC COVID-19 guidelines, only 10 people will be permitted at one time into the funeral home. Masks are required to be worn at all times while in the funeral home and social distancing is required.
